I have always loved the Malvern Hills which rise close to where I grew up, by the River Severn in the west of England. The Hills are an inspiration to me musically and emotionally.
I thank God every time I walk on them.
They are high enough to inspire, with grand views eastward over the vale of Evesham and westward I can usually see the misty peaks of Wales. But they are never bleak or forbidding.
One of my earliest songs taken, as most are, from the biblical Psalms is Ps 121: 'I lift Up My Eyes To The Hills'.
At a very difficult time I found encouragement from the Psalm writer acknowledging the sense we all have to look to higher ground for help, but in the same breath asserting that real help comes only from God.
All my songs and instrumental pieces are to me (almost literally) 'notes' of worship through tough times. And I know others have found these words set to music helpful too. I hope they will be to you.
